Murder by Peanut

Peanutbutter Corp of America is guilty of murder, in my opinion.

During visits to the plant leaky roofs, mold and roaches were found.  Wouldn’t you think that any one of those three would be grounds for shutting the plant down?  After all, they do provide peanut butter to a ton of other places and those places provide schools, businesses and us, consumers, with products.

I don’t know about you but I don’t really want to be eating anything that came from a place that was cited for cockroaches. Makes you wonder what’s worse, the mold or the cockroaches. At the very least the roaches should tell you things were not clean let alone sanitary.

The news said that at least 12 times since 2007 FDA docs show products that tested positive for salmonella. Why wasn’t the first time enough to get the plant shutdown? (I’ll get to the answer to my questions in a bit) Why wasn’t the second event enough to get the plant shutdown? Seems no one cared and the fact that it happened a minimum of 12 times bears that out.

Once could have been a fluke, twice should have indicated a serious problem and the third time they should have been shut down totally. No one cared. They were allowed to continue providing products that could sicken and kill people. No one cared.

What proof do I have that no one cared. Uh, Duh, it happened 9 more times. If anyone cared do you think it would have happened even one more? Sheesh. Get a grip, it’s only logical.

Worse yet, the company retested and reported nothing found so the shipments were sent anyway. Now why is retesting allowed? I’ve never heard anything about a lot of false positives when testing for salmonella? Why was retesting allowed? From what I understand, it isn’t. So why were the products allowed to be shipped? Not once, Not twice! 12 times that we know of and I’m betting even more that we don’t know of.

These people ought to be criminally charged, with murder, first degree murder at that because in my opinion it was murder for profit. Their profit. (Does that answer the why questions from above, for ya?)  There also has to be some conspiracy charges to commit murder and even more along those lines.

However let’s put the blame where it really lies.  The republicans keep pushing tax cuts and less govt interference. Well, due to tax cuts there aren’t enough inspectors. Due to less govt interference there weren’t enough inspectors. Ergo, due to republicans people are dying needlessly.

Republicans are sadly deluded if they think any company is going to do what’s best for the people of this country, on their own and at the expense of their profits. Ain’t gonna happen. Companies are in business to make a profit and if they have to kill a few people to make that profit most of them don’t give a damn. PCA’s actions pretty much prove that, at least to me. Ain’t;t the first time and won’t be the last.

Banks are in business to make a profit and if they have to put a few people out of their homes for scams the banks created they don’t give a damn. What happened. No govt interference and no one watching the books of these places due to less taxes so the govt can’t hire people to do the job the govt is supposed to be doing. Hey, at least we pay less taxes.

Now the republicans are trying to block the stimulus pkg because it doesn’t contain enough tax cuts. Hell, the republican tax cuts are what’s killing us. Reliance, by republicans, for american and foreign business to do the right thing, is sadly misplaced. Their first priority should be to make sure all americans are safe from bad food. After all, according to the govt, keeping us safe from terrorism is the most important thing. What about keeping us from being killed by bad food? Isn’t that even more important?

Sadly, evidently not. Tax cuts are and that’s our fault. We, as a nation, seem happier to save a few cents on our taxes than to keep from killing people and making hundred and thousands sick. So in the end, once again, we have met the enemy, and, he is us.
