The tobacco tax isn’t supposed to take effect until Wednesday. There are sure a lot of places that raised their prices to the new price already. Seems sin taxes are back in fashion and everyone from the federal govt to the cigarette stores are making more money because of the tobacco tax.
Now if they really wanted to tax something lucrative the idiots in congress would tax stupidity. Even at a 5% tax it would rake in trillions. Of course the idiots in congress would be paying large amounts so a stupidity tax will never pass. Imagine if it could.
BTW, what tax cuts? So the feds cut a few taxes. The new ones they added on more than make up for it. When the fed cuts taxes the states raise theirs, sometimes more than the feds cut.
If you’re a poor person a large part of your income goes to pay taxes. Heh, I’ll bet you think just because they don’t make enough to pay fed or state tax they never pay any taxes.
Have you checked your state sales tax lately? How about your state gas tax? How about the tax you pay on groceries and clothes? Cigarette tax and general tobacco tax? Matter of fact I challenge you to post the things people don’t pay tax on. Can’t say air because gas stations sell it and your price includes the tax. If you say water just stop posting as you’re to much of an idiot to be believable and should be paying a 90% stupidity tax.
It takes a proportionately larger share of a poor persons income to pay all of these miscellaneous taxes than it does rich people. Lol, the poor, who all say aren’t being taxed, pay a minimum of 10% and more on these miscellaneous taxes. When you’re below poverty level that’s a big chunk of money. Yes, Toto, the poor pay taxes.
It’s to bad the tobacco tax was touted as a health measure to improve smokers health and to encourage them to quit. Lol, these people are addicts. Ever see a heroin addict who quit because the price of his or her drugs got to high.
It’s just another sin tax with a high moral purpose. No different than wanting to charge patrons of strip clubs a ten dollar tax to fight female enslavement.
Now if the govt really wanted to rake in some tax dollars they’d legalize marijuana and then tax the hell out of it. Users are used to paying 125 bucks an ounce and up. Actual plant cost involved is less than 10 bucks.
All I can say is taxes, unless proportionate to income, are completely unfair between different income levels. The tobacco tax is just another example.
